Day 199 · July 16
Kids Corner — Day 199
1 Chronicles 26:12–27:34 · Romans 4:13–5:5 · Psalm 14:1–7 · Proverbs 19:17
Today’s story
Israel’s administration is ordered carefully. Behind the lists is a kingdom being prepared for faithful stewardship.
Abraham trusted God’s promise against hope. Paul then declares that faith brings peace with God and hope even in suffering.
Humanity’s corruption is universal; we need God’s rescue.
Kindness to the poor is treated as lending to the Lord.
The story in children’s words
The gatekeepers of God's house were given their gates by lot, and trusted men watched over the treasures David had set apart for God's house. Captains led the army month by month, and wise men helped the king with the land and the work. Everything in David's kingdom was set in good order. Paul wrote that God's promise to Abraham came by faith, not by the law, because Abraham believed God could do what He promised, even when it seemed impossible. Because we are made right by faith, Paul said, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. And God's love has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit He gave us — all because of Jesus.
It points to Jesus
Peace with God is not achieved by perfect administration or moral effort. Through Jesus we are justified by faith and brought into grace.
Talk about it
How does peace with God change the way we face suffering?
