Today’s story

David charges Solomon to seek God and build the Temple. The people give generously, and David praises God as the true owner of everything.

Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Adam brought sin and death; Jesus brings grace and life.

The person who may dwell with God walks in integrity.

Discipline and uncontrolled anger both carry consequences.

The story in children’s words

Old King David gathered all the leaders and told them God had chosen Solomon to build His house. David gave Solomon the plans God had shown him, and said, "Be strong and brave, for the LORD will not leave you." Then David and all the people gave gold, silver, and jewels for God's house with joyful, willing hearts. They prayed, ate together, and made Solomon king, and David died full of days, riches, and honor. Paul wrote that sin and death came into the world through one man, Adam. But God's gift is much greater: through one Man, Jesus Christ, God's grace overflowed to many. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us, and by His obedience many are made right with God.

It points to Jesus

This is one of July’s clearest views of Jesus: we were helpless, but Christ died for us. The greater Son of David brings a Kingdom and life that death cannot defeat.

Talk about it

Finish the sentence: “Today I am thankful Jesus…”
