Today’s story

Solomon receives wisdom and begins building the Temple. The work is large because it is meant to honor the Lord.

Believers are united with Christ in His death and resurrection. Grace is not permission to remain in sin; we are called to new life.

God is our secure portion and shows us the path of life.

Wise counsel should be received, not ignored.

The story in children’s words

Solomon became king, and God was with him and made him very great. One night God said, "Ask for what you want Me to give you." Solomon did not ask for riches or long life; he asked for wisdom to lead God's people well. God was pleased and gave him wisdom, and riches and honor too. Then Solomon began to build the great house for the LORD, asking the king of Tyre for cedar trees and skilled workers. Paul wrote that those who trust Jesus have died to sin and been raised to walk in new life, like Jesus rose from the dead. "The wages of sin is death, but God's free gift is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

It points to Jesus

The Temple is being built as a place of God’s presence. Romans tells us that in Christ an even deeper work is underway: old life dies and new life begins.

Talk about it

What does it mean practically to be alive to God in Christ?
