Today’s story

Judah’s kings experience both mercy and judgment. Strength comes when they humble themselves before God.

The Spirit helps us pray, God works through all things, and nothing can separate believers from the love of God in Christ.

David celebrates God’s victory and faithful love.

Refusing instruction leads away from knowledge and wisdom.

The story in children’s words

King Rehoboam wanted to fight his brothers in Israel, but God said, "Do not fight, for this is from Me," and the men obeyed and went home. Rehoboam built strong cities, and the priests and all who set their hearts to seek God came to Jerusalem. When Rehoboam later turned away from God's law, Egypt's king attacked, but the king and the princes humbled themselves and said, "The LORD is righteous," and God did not let them be destroyed. His son Abijah trusted God in battle and won against a much bigger army. Paul wrote the strongest promise of all: nothing — not death, not life, nothing in all creation — can separate us from God's love. That love is in Christ Jesus our Lord, who was given up for us all.

It points to Jesus

Kings fail and kingdoms shake, but Romans 8 gives an unshakable promise: nothing in creation can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus.
