Day 209 · July 26
Kids Corner — Day 209
2 Chronicles 21:1–23:21 · Romans 11:13–36 · Psalm 22:1–18 · Proverbs 20:7
Today’s story
Dark leadership brings violence and idolatry, but God preserves the royal line and restores rightful worship through courageous faithfulness.
Paul warns Gentile believers against pride and marvels at God’s wisdom, mercy, and unsearchable ways.
The suffering psalm begins with abandonment and describes anguish that Christians have long recognized as pointing toward the crucified Christ.
The righteous person leaves a faithful legacy.
The story in children’s words
After Jehoshaphat died, his son Jehoram did evil and even killed his own brothers, and God let trouble and sickness come on him, and no one was sorry when he died. His son Ahaziah also did evil and was killed, and Ahaziah's mother Athaliah tried to destroy all the king's children so she could rule. But a brave woman hid baby Joash in God's house for six years, keeping David's family line safe. Then the priest Jehoiada brought Joash out, crowned him king, and Athaliah was stopped. Paul wrote that God is like a farmer with an olive tree, able to graft branches back in again, and that God can show mercy to everyone. The psalm today begins, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" — words Jesus Himself cried out on the cross for us.
It points to Jesus
Psalm 22 brings us near the cross. Human kingdoms become corrupt, but Jesus enters suffering, bears rejection, and remains the true King.
