Today’s story

Hezekiah reopens and cleanses the Temple, restores sacrifice, and leads Judah back toward worship.

Paul tells believers not to despise or judge one another over disputable matters. Each belongs to the Lord.

The earth belongs to God; the King of glory is welcomed in.

God gives both hearing and sight; use both wisely.

The story in children’s words

King Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he did what was right, like David. In his very first month, he opened the doors of God's house, which his father had shut. He called the priests and Levites to clean out all the filthiness and make God's house holy again. Then they offered sacrifices for all Israel, set the singers in their places, and the whole assembly bowed and worshiped while the trumpets sounded. So many gifts were brought that there were not enough priests to prepare them all, and there was great joy in Jerusalem. Paul wrote that we should accept one another and not judge our brothers, and should never make another believer stumble. For God's kingdom is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit — and whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord Jesus.

It points to Jesus

Hezekiah clears away what kept worship from functioning. Romans asks us to clear away contempt and judgment so Christ remains Lord of the fellowship.

Talk about it

How can Christians disagree without despising one another?
