The story in children’s words
A strong king from Assyria came to fight Jerusalem, and he mocked God and King Hezekiah. Hezekiah told the people, "Be strong and brave, for God is with us to fight our battles." Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah prayed and cried out to heaven. Then God sent an angel who defeated the enemy army, and Jerusalem was saved. Later Hezekiah grew sick and proud, but he humbled himself and God was kind. His son Manasseh did much evil and led the people astray, so God let enemies carry him away in chains. In his trouble Manasseh humbled himself and prayed, and God brought him back home. Paul greeted many dear friends who worked hard for Jesus, showing that God hears humble prayers and loves His people.
It points to Jesus
July ends with mercy. Even Manasseh’s deep rebellion is not beyond God’s reach when he humbles himself. Romans ends by showing grace creating a family of servants around Jesus.
