Today’s story

Ecclesiastes turns toward sober wisdom. Hard days can teach what easy days cannot, yet human wisdom still has limits. God alone sees the whole.

Paul rejoices that godly sorrow led the Corinthians to repentance. Real repentance does not merely feel bad; it turns back toward God.

Jerusalem celebrates God's protection and invites the next generation to remember His faithfulness.

Wisdom must move from the ear into the heart so that our trust rests in the LORD.

The story in children’s words

The wise king said a good name is better than sweet perfume. He said wisdom keeps us safe, anger makes us fools, and no one can make straight what God has made crooked. He said God made people upright, but people went looking for many wrong ways. He also said the living know they will die, so we should enjoy our food and do our work with all our might while we can. He told of a poor wise man who saved a little city, but no one remembered him. Paul was glad because the people were truly sorry for their sin, and their sorrow led them to turn back to God. Godly sorrow brings people to be saved. Jesus saves everyone who turns to Him with a sorry heart, and God will be our guide even to the end.

It points to Jesus

Jesus does not call us to shallow regret. His grace makes honest repentance possible because the cross has already dealt with our guilt.
