Day 259 · September 14
Kids Corner — Day 259
Isaiah 22:1–24:23 · Galatians 2:17–3:9 · Psalm 60:1–12 · Proverbs 23:15–16
Today’s story
Jerusalem trusts defenses more than the One who made them. Isaiah then widens the view: the whole earth lies under God's judgment, yet the LORD will reign.
Paul says he has been crucified with Christ. New life is lived by faith in the Son of God, and Abraham shows that God's blessing comes through faith.
After defeat, God's people ask Him to restore and lead them.
A wise heart and truthful speech bring deep joy.
The story in children’s words
Jerusalem was full of noise and feasting while danger was near, and the people did not look to God who made them. God took away proud Shebna from his high place and gave his robe and key to Eliakim, who would be like a father to the people. God said Eliakim would open and no one would shut, and shut and no one would open. Proud Tyre would fall too, and one day the whole earth would be shaken, but the LORD would reign on Mount Zion. Paul said, "I have been crucified with Christ, and Christ lives in me. I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." He reminded them that Abraham believed God, and God counted it as righteousness. Jesus loved us and gave Himself for us, and all who believe like Abraham are blessed in Him.
It points to Jesus
Paul gives us one of September's great truths: the old self no longer defines the believer. Jesus loved us and gave Himself for us; now our life is lived by faith in Him.
Talk about it
What does it mean in ordinary life to say, 'Christ lives in me'?
