Jeremiah 16:16–18:23 · 1 Thessalonians 4:1–5:3 · Psalm 81:1–16 · Proverbs 25:6–8
Today’s story
Old Testament God exposes Judah’s sin and teaches Jeremiah through the potter: the Lord has authority over the clay, yet His warnings invite repentance. The people resist the message and plot against the messenger. New Testament Paul calls believers to holiness, brotherly love, responsible living, and hope concerning those who have died in Christ. Jesus will return, so His people are to live awake rather than spiritually asleep. Psalm God remembers how He delivered His people and laments that they would not listen. Proverb Humility is wiser than self-promotion, especially before those in authority. Discover Jesus The Potter has rightful authority over us, but His purpose is not arbitrary cruelty. In Jesus, God calls and remakes a people for holiness, hope, and readiness for the returning King. Reflect Am I spiritually awake and living as someone who expects Jesus to return? Fellowship Share one truth from today’s reading that helps you see Jesus more clearly. Ask how that truth should change the way you live today.
The story in children’s words
God said the person who trusts in people alone is like a dry bush in the desert. But the person who trusts in the LORD is like a tree planted by the water, with green leaves and fruit even in a dry year. God also sent Jeremiah to watch a potter shaping clay on his wheel. When a pot spoiled, the potter made it into another pot, just as he wished. God said, "You are in my hand, like clay in the potter's hand." Paul taught God's people to live pure and quiet lives, loving one another more and more. He also gave them a great comfort: Jesus died and rose again, and one day He will come down from heaven with a shout and God's trumpet. Those who died trusting Jesus will rise first, and we will be with the Lord forever.
