Today’s story
New Testament Paul warns that the love of money brings ruin. Godliness with contentment is great gain. Timothy is to flee destructive desires, pursue godly character, fight the good fight, and place hope in God rather than wealth. Psalm The psalm wrestles honestly with the apparent collapse of the Davidic promise and asks God to remember His covenant. Proverb A person without self-control is like a city whose defenses have been broken. Discover Jesus Jeremiah’s rejection points toward Jesus, who also speaks truth and is rejected. Psalm 89’s crisis makes the coming of Christ even more important: God has not abandoned David’s line. The true King comes, and our hope belongs in Him. Reflect What fear of people is keeping me from obeying God? Fellowship Share one truth from today’s reading that helps you see Jesus more clearly. Ask how that truth should change the way you live today.
The story in children’s words
King Zedekiah asked Jeremiah to pray for him, but he would not listen to God's answer: Babylon's army would come back and burn the city. Jeremiah was falsely blamed, beaten, and put in prison, where the king secretly asked him, "Is there any word from the LORD?" Later, angry leaders threw Jeremiah into a deep, muddy pit where he sank down. A kind servant of the king named Ebed-melech pulled him out with ropes and old rags, and Jeremiah was kept safe in the guard's court with a loaf of bread each day. Paul warned Timothy that the love of money leads people into many sorrows. Be content with food and clothing, he said, and fight the good fight of faith. God alone is King of kings and Lord of lords, and Jesus will appear again at just the right time.
