The story in children’s words
Babylon's army broke into Jerusalem, just as God had said. King Zedekiah ran away, but he was caught, and the city walls were torn down and its houses burned. Jeremiah, though, was set free and treated kindly, because God was watching over him. God also sent a message to Ebed-melech, who had rescued Jeremiah from the pit: "I will save you, because you trusted in me." A good man named Gedaliah was put in charge of the poor people left in the land, but a wicked man named Ishmael murdered him, and the people were afraid. Paul wrote to Timothy, whose faith had first lived in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. God has not given us a spirit of fear, Paul said, but of power, love, and self-control. Jesus our Savior destroyed death and brought life to light through the good news.
It points to Jesus
Discover Jesus Jerusalem’s fall shows where human rebellion ends. Against that darkness, Paul announces the victory of Jesus: death does not have the last word. Our brief days become meaningful when lived under the refuge and lordship of Christ. Reflect What does it look like to live today with power, love, and self-control? Fellowship Share one truth from today’s reading that helps you see Jesus more clearly. Ask how that truth should change the way you live today.
