Day 316 · November 12
Kids Corner — Day 316
Ezekiel 24:1–26:21 · Hebrews 11:1–16 · Psalm 110:1–7 · Proverbs 27:14
Today’s story
Jerusalem's fall is announced, and surrounding nations are judged for pride and cruelty. No nation stands outside God's justice.
Faith trusts God's promises before seeing their completion. Abraham looks for the city whose architect and builder is God.
The Messiah-King and Priest reigns at God's right hand.
Thoughtless praise at the wrong time can become a burden.
The story in children’s words
The king of Babylon surrounded Jerusalem, and God showed it with a picture of a rusty cooking pot on the fire. Then something very sad happened: Ezekiel's wife died, and God told him not to weep out loud. It was a sign that the temple, the delight of the people's eyes, would be taken away, and the sorrow would be too deep for tears. God also spoke against the nations around Israel who clapped their hands and rejoiced when Jerusalem fell. Proud Tyre said, "Now I will get rich," but God said the city would be scraped bare like a rock and never be built again. Then the letter to the Hebrews tells us what faith is: being sure of what we hope for, even when we cannot see it. By faith Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah trusted God, and God prepared a heavenly city for them. The psalm says, "The LORD says to my Lord, 'Sit at my right hand'" — that Lord is Jesus, a Priest and King forever, and by faith we follow Him to the city God has made.
It points to Jesus
The heroes of faith looked forward. We look to Jesus, the promised One in whom God's future has begun.
