Kids Corner — Day 318
Ezekiel 29:1–30:26 · Hebrews 11:32–12:13 · Psalm 112:1–10 · Proverbs 27:17
Today’s story
Egypt's power will not save it. God humbles nations that imagine themselves secure apart from Him.
The witnesses of faith surround us as we run with endurance, fixing our eyes on Jesus, who endured the cross.
The God-fearing life becomes steady and generous.
People sharpen one another through honest relationship.
The story in children’s words
God spoke against Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, who was proud like a great monster in his river, saying, "My river is my own; I made it for myself." But God said He would pull the monster out and lay Egypt low for forty years, and afterward Egypt would be a small, humble kingdom, never to rule the nations again. Israel had leaned on Egypt for help, but Egypt was like a reed staff that breaks and hurts the hand that leans on it. Only God can be trusted to hold us up. The letter to the Hebrews names many more heroes of faith — Gideon, Samson, David, and many others. Some stopped the mouths of lions and escaped the sword; others suffered greatly and were not rescued in this life, because God had something better planned. So the letter says: since so many faithful people surround us like a great crowd, let us run our race with patience, looking to Jesus. And when God corrects us like a loving father, it is to make us good and strong, like iron sharpening iron, just as Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before Him.
It points to Jesus
We run by looking to Jesus. He endured the cross for the joy ahead and now strengthens our endurance.
