The story in children’s words
Everyone whose heart was willing came to build God's tent. Men and women brought gold jewelry, colored thread, wood, and stones. Skilled women spun thread with their hands, and Bezalel and his helper led the work. The people brought so much that Moses had to tell them to stop giving, because there was more than enough! Then the builders began making the tent just as God had shown. On that dark day, Jesus was nailed to a cross. The sky went dark, and Jesus cried out and died. The thick curtain in the temple tore in two from top to bottom. Jesus was laid in a new tomb, and a big stone was rolled in front. Jesus died on the cross to open the way for us to come to God.
It points to Jesus
Exodus describes people building a place where God would dwell among them. Matthew shows something greater. When Jesus dies, the Temple curtain is torn. The barrier is opened. Through Jesus, we no longer need an earthly Tabernacle or repeated sacrifices to approach God. Jesus has opened the way. The cross looked like defeat. It became the doorway home to God.
Talk about it
Ask one another: What does it mean to you that Jesus opened the way to God?
