The story in children’s words
God taught His people which animals were clean to eat and which were not. Animals that chew the cud and have split hooves were clean, but the pig was not. Fish with fins and scales were clean to eat. God was teaching His people to be different and holy, set apart for Him, in even the small things of life, like food. When a mother had a new baby, she brought a gift to God, and if she was poor, she could bring two small birds. In Mark's story, a leader named Jairus begged Jesus to heal his dying daughter. On the way, a woman who had been sick for twelve years touched Jesus' clothes and was healed at once. Then Jesus took the little girl by the hand and said, "Little girl, get up!" and she stood up alive. Jesus can heal the sick and even wake the dead.
It points to Jesus
What is unclean does not make Jesus unclean. Instead, His holiness brings cleansing, healing, and life. He is greater than impurity, suffering, and death.
Talk about it
