The story in children’s words

God taught His people to give Him the first part of their bread when they entered the land. He made a way for them to be forgiven when they sinned without meaning to. God also told them to put blue tassels on their clothes to help them remember His commands. But Korah and his friends rose up against Moses and Aaron, saying they wanted to lead too. Moses prayed, and God showed that He had chosen Moses and Aaron. The ground opened and swallowed the men who rebelled. The next day, soldiers hurt Jesus and put a crown of thorns on His head. Jesus was nailed to a cross, and darkness covered the land. When Jesus died, a soldier said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!" A kind man named Joseph laid Jesus' body in a tomb, because Jesus had given His life for us.

It points to Jesus

Numbers shows us a holy God whom sinful people cannot approach casually. Then Mark brings us to the cross. Jesus makes the way. The innocent Jesus takes the place of the guilty. Barabbas deserves punishment but walks free. Jesus has done nothing wrong, yet He goes to the cross. Barabbas goes free because Jesus takes his place. And so do we. Then the Temple curtain tears. What humanity could never accomplish, Jesus accomplishes through His sacrifice. It ALL points to Jesus.

Talk about it

Talk with someone about this: What does the torn Temple curtain tell us about what Jesus accomplished on the cross?
