The story in children’s words
The people complained again, and a sickness spread among them. Aaron ran in among the people with incense and prayed for them, and the sickness stopped. Then God made Aaron's stick grow buds, blossoms, and ripe almonds overnight. That showed everyone that God had chosen Aaron to serve as priest. God gave the priests and Levites food from the offerings, and He said, "I am your portion." Early on Sunday morning, some women went to Jesus' tomb. The big stone was rolled away, and an angel said, "He has risen! He is not here." Jesus appeared to His friends alive again. Then Jesus told them to go into all the world and tell everyone the good news. Jesus is alive, and that is the best news of all.
It points to Jesus
Look at the pictures God gives us today. Aaron stands between the dead and the living. A dead staff suddenly comes to life. Priests stand between sinful people and a holy God. Then Mark 16: the tomb is empty. We needed someone to stand between sin and life, bring us into God's presence, and defeat death itself.
Jesus did all three. Yesterday we stood at the cross. Today we stand at the empty tomb. He is risen.
Talk about it
Talk with someone about this: What difference does the resurrection of Jesus make in the way we face fear, suffering, and even death?
