The story in children’s words

Moses reminded the people of the time they made a golden calf while he was on the mountain. He broke the stone tablets, prayed for the people for forty days, and ground the calf to dust. God listened to Moses and gave new tablets with the same Ten Commandments. Moses said God did not give them the land because they were so good, because they often had stiff necks and would not listen. God gave it because He keeps His promises. What God wants, Moses said, is for His people to love Him and walk in His ways. Then Jesus told a story about a farmer sowing seed. Some seed fell on the path, some on rocks, some among thorns, and some in good ground. Jesus said the seed is God's word. People with good, honest hearts hear God's word, hold on to it, and grow good fruit. When we hear Jesus and do what He says, we are His family.
