Day 169 · June 16
Kids Corner — Day 169
1 Kings 19:1–21 · Acts 12:1–23 · Psalm 136:1–26 · Proverbs 17:14–15
Today’s story
After Carmel, Elijah collapses in fear and exhaustion. God meets him gently, speaks in quietness, and sends him back with purpose and a companion.
Herod attacks the church and Peter is miraculously freed from prison. Human rulers boast and perish, but God’s purposes continue.
Every line repeats the foundation of hope: His faithful love endures forever.
God’s faithful love outlasts every changing circumstance.
The story in children’s words
Jezebel sent word that she would kill Elijah, and the brave prophet ran for his life. Alone in the desert, he sat under a tree and asked to die. But an angel touched him and said, "Arise and eat," and there were a cake baked on coals and a jar of water by his head. Twice he ate, and in the strength of that food he walked forty days to God's mountain. There God passed by, but He was not in the strong wind, the earthquake, or the fire. After the fire came a still, small voice, and God told Elijah he was not alone: seven thousand in Israel had never bowed to Baal. Elijah found Elisha plowing with oxen, threw his cloak over him, and Elisha left everything to follow and serve him. King Herod had James killed and put Peter in prison, chained between two soldiers. But the church prayed without stopping, and an angel woke Peter, his chains fell off, and the iron gate opened by itself! Peter hurried to the house where many were praying, leaving them amazed. Herod later let people call him a god, and because he did not give God the glory, he died. Jesus is the true King, and no chains and no proud ruler can stop His church.
It points to Jesus
Elijah’s weakness does not cancel his calling. Jesus is gentle with weary servants and continues His mission through fragile people.
Talk about it
