Today’s story
Old Testament God moves a pagan king to send His people home. Names, families, gifts, and worshipers return because God keeps His promise. New Testament The message of the cross looks foolish to the world, yet it is God’s power and wisdom. Faith rests on God, not impressive speech. Psalm Wait for the Lord with courage and seek His face. Proverb Leave vengeance to God; dishonest measures offend Him. Discover Jesus Jesus is God’s wisdom and power. Restoration does not finally come through a king’s decree but through the crucified and risen King. Reflect What does today’s reading show me about trusting Christ when I cannot control or fully understand what is happening? The story in children’s words
King Cyrus told God's people, "Go up to Jerusalem and build the LORD's house." He even gave back the gold and silver cups that had been taken from God's house. More than forty-two thousand people traveled home, family by family, and they gave gold and silver to help the work. The long list of names shows that God knew every family who came back. Paul wrote that the message of the cross sounds foolish to some, but it is God's power to save. He said God chose weak and lowly people, so no one can boast except in the Lord. Paul did not preach with fancy words; he preached only Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Jesus is God's wisdom and God's power, given to people the world calls small.
