Today’s story
After the suffering Servant comes restoration: covenant peace, an open invitation to receive God's gifts freely, and a call for His people to return from idolatry.
Paul brings the gospel into home and work, then describes the armor of God. The battle is spiritual, and believers stand in
God's strength.
The psalmist urgently asks God for help and refuses to pretend he is self-sufficient.
Persistent scheming toward evil earns a fitting reputation.
The story in children’s words
God told His people to sing and to make their tents bigger, because His family would grow and grow. He promised, "My loving kindness will never leave you, and My promise of peace will never be shaken." He called out, "Come, everyone who is thirsty! Come and eat and drink — it costs nothing at all." He said, "Seek the LORD while He can be found. Turn away from wicked ways, and He will freely pardon." God's word is like rain that makes the seeds grow; it always does the work He sends it to do. Paul told children to obey their parents, and he told everyone to put on God's whole armor so they can stand strong. God's free invitation is still open today, and Jesus is the One who welcomes us in.
It points to Jesus
The Servant's suffering opens the way for covenant peace. Jesus also equips His people to stand - not in personal toughness but in truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, God's Word, and prayer.
