Day 274 · September 29
Kids Corner — Day 274
Isaiah 62:6–65:25 · Philippians 2:19–3:3 · Psalm 73:1–28 · Proverbs 24:13–14
Today’s story
Isaiah cries for God to act, remembers His mercy, confesses sin, and looks toward God's promise of new heavens and a new earth where former troubles are forgotten.
Paul commends Timothy and Epaphroditus as faithful servants, then warns against confidence in religious credentials. God's people worship by the Spirit and boast in Christ.
Envy nearly pulls the psalmist off course until he enters God's presence and sees what truly lasts. God Himself is his portion.
Wisdom is sweet and gives a future hope.
The story in children’s words
God set watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem to pray day and night and not rest until He made the city a praise on the earth. He promised, "Your salvation comes!" and that His people would be called holy and not forsaken. Isaiah remembered how God had saved His people long ago, carrying them like a father, but the people had turned away and sinned. The prophet prayed like clay talking to the potter, "You are our Father; do not forget us." God answered that He would make new heavens and a new earth, where there is no more crying, and the wolf and the lamb eat together in peace. Paul sent his kind friends Timothy and Epaphroditus to care for God's people, and he told everyone to rejoice in the Lord. The God who promises a brand-new world sent Jesus, our salvation, to bring us that joy.
It points to Jesus
Isaiah stretches our vision toward new creation. Philippians and Psalm 73 bring the heart into focus: our confidence and portion are not status, success, or comparison. Our treasure is Christ.
Talk about it
What does it mean to say, 'God is my portion' when life feels unfair?
