The story in children’s words
God told the kings of Judah to do what is right: rescue the robbed, and do no wrong to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow. One king built himself a big cedar palace but did not pay his workers, and God was not pleased. His father Josiah had helped the poor and needy, and God said, "Wasn't this to know me?" Then God promised something wonderful: "I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right. His name will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness." Paul praised believers who kept trusting God even when they were hurt for their faith. That promised righteous King is Jesus, and one day He will be revealed from heaven in glory.
It points to Jesus
Discover Jesus The righteous Branch is one of October’s clearest windows to Jesus. Human shepherds fail, but Christ reigns with justice and becomes the righteousness His people could never produce for themselves. Reflect Which failed human shepherd makes me more grateful for Jesus, the righteous Branch? Fellowship Share one truth from today’s reading that helps you see Jesus more clearly. Ask how that truth should change the way you live today.
